Today I did a little encaustic demo in my studio. I also started a new painting in encaustics that was inspired by Frank Gehry's Formica Fish he created in the 80's. I worked at Formica at the time. Formica had just come out with a new product called "Colorcore" which was a solid color through laminate. (No brown middle) We sent out custom made boxes filled with the product to some of the top Architects in the country and Frank Gehry made an incredible fish lamp below. Back in those days, I was too young to appreciate who Frank Gehry was but I always remembered his fish! I was quite surprised when I googled the image to find out it was him. Anyway, mine is nothing on that order. It was just the germ of an idea from days gone by.
